Michael W Thomas Writing Session at Bold Writers - 6th October 2009
Rate: U
Bold Writers Group are absolutely delighted to announce that the poet and writer Michael W Thomas visited us on the evening of 6th October for a rich and fruitful writing session.
In my mind Michael's talk was very artistic and drew a beautiful picture which started with the meditation of free writing, and continued with the creation of something we know about by giving it wings and flying it to the lands of fantasy slowly, one flap at the time, while adding dots of colour that develops into splashes of wonderful paint!
And as it goes with any good art, we were told to observe, observe and observe! Look at people around us and listen to their conversations; make notes and use them in our writing!
Michael gave us examples of how poetic language and playing with the words that may sometime have no meanings, can be used in writing to create texture. One of his examples was: "I am FOREVER blowing bubbles!"
Michael talk was magical and his passion for poetry, writing and life, deeply inspired our group.

Anthology 2009- Reams of Dreams
Rate: U

As we are getting nearer to the publication of our 2009 Anthology, the name "Reams of Dreams" was suggested by June in our last gathering and loved by all who attended that evening.
I also became volunteer and went ahead with the creation of a logo for our group and a cover for our this year anthology.
This is a cover design for a paperback size publication which will cost us cheaper than last year book and we can submit our own design as opposed to paying the publisher to use one of their own designs.
I look to see how everybody likes this of course!
Winter Witch Writing Competition

What does it take to be a hero? Do you have to battle against a terrible foe to rescue the love of your life, do you need to be kind to kittens or gentle with the weak? Do you need to be able to ride without a saddle and fight aliens with your eyes closed?
For our new competition, we want you to focus on personality, in particular your hero or anti-hero. With a strong emphasis on your main character or characters, give us a good storyline, inhabited by believable and vibrant people.
All the best,
Jo

Site Private Writing Page Enhancement - 3 November 2008
Rate: U
Hi Bold Writers
A new navigation is now added to the Bold Writing page to reflect individual works of the writers who contributed to the site.
By Clicking on each Writer's name, you will see the writings of that person listed. This will help the individual writers to keep track of their writings, while giving the readers the opportunity to see the last published work by each writer.
I hope this enhancement is useful and encourage other members to contribute to the writing so that they get a section in the navigation bar too! :)

A fantastic start to 2009

First meeting of the group in 2009, was a very promising one. It was a full house, with everybody full of energy and keen to write.
We enjoyed a couple of fantastic short stories by Jean and our recent member Amanda. We got our 2008 Anthologies signed by everybody and we set out work for the next meeting.
And I did bring my camera and took a couple of pictures, which later on were manipulated by Photoshop for the site.
Everybody agreed that in 2009, they will try to use the site more and enjoy connecting with the group to read and provide feedback as well as write.
I look forward to see lots of your contributions on this site.

Please keep yourself updated with news!

Bold Writers Web Site Launch - June 2008
Bold Writers Web Site is launched in June 2008 and used by members since then.
This site is a complete Content Management System (CMS), which gives the logged on users the ability to add, modify or delete their own created contents.
This will reduce the site administration and speeds up the update of the site by the users once they decide on adding/changing or removing any of their posts.
We have three categories published on our site, our Writing are static items, such as stories and poems, News are items that gives us information and update on events and finally we have the ability to keep our own blog.
The site gives the members the option to keep their posts private. A post that is flagged as publish will only be visible on the site for all, otherwise only the owner and the members can view it.
And finally we all have to create rating for our writings. This is to give our readers the ability to decide whether a post is suitable for them or not.
Here is a summary of our ratings:
U = Universal - i.e everybody
PG = Parental Guidance, may have some materials that parents may consider not suitable for children.
13+ = Over 13 Only: May have mild swearing and mild violence, but no reference to sex or drugs.
18+ = Over 18 Only: May have mild references to sex or drugs and more swearing.
GC = Graphical Contents: These posts will have advance references to sex and drugs and advanced use of bad language.
We publish the rating of each post to so that our readers can decide on what they read. If the rating found to be not correct by any member, this should be reported to the post owner in the first place, so they can change the rating to the correct one, and if not changed within reasonable time interval, the matter should be reported to the web master, who will be able to freeze the post until further action is taken by the post owner.
The site has proved to be very popular in blog section, with members interact and keep in touch with each other on regular basis.
If you would like to become a member of Bold Writers, please contact us for more details.
