Junying's Bold Bio
Ever since my childhood, I’ve enjoyed reading and writing. Learning to write Chinese characters was no easy fare and required a great deal of patience and persistence. I remember I loved my Chinese lessens and took pleasure in writing compositions.
I started learning English as a foreign language when I was 14, near the end of the Cultural Revolution. I worked very hard on memorising those foreign vocabulary and strange grammatical patterns. I was fortunate enough to be granted a place at university to study English Language and Literature. As my grasp of English improved, I was able to read classics like Jane Eyre, David Copperfield and Far from the Maddening Crowd.
In 1988, I had a wonderful opportunity to further my studies in a prestigious British university. Since then, my writing in English has taken great leaps forward, and I have been able to produce high quality dissertations, research papers and short stories for publication. In 1998, I started writing my first feature-length novel (The Same Moon). In the past decade or so, I continued to polish my writing skills. I have completed a second novel (Trials of Life) and am working on my third (Working title: The Illegals).
Since moving to the West Midlands in 2002, I became a member of Bold Writers, a group we formed after a Creative Writing course at an Adult Education Centre in Sutton Coldfield. This has provided further impetus to make a good use of my knowledge and skills, and to create stories, either based on real life, or from our vast imagination. This is something I love doing and will continue in many years to come.
After working as an academic and administrator at universities both in China in the UK, I started my own business in 2001, offering consultations on business culture and cultural differences between the East and the West, now I specialise in Interpreting & Translation, between Mandarin Chinese and English. Further details can be found on my website: www.chineseinterpreting.co.uk.
I’d like to share some of my writings here with you, no matter where you are and what you do. Enjoy!
